Photozone Reviews the Noctilux

Photozone.de has just added their latest Leica lens review - the Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH. They clearly use a hard-number approach to quantify the technical aspects of the lens, and of course mention the price. Most users of this lens don't really regard any of that, instead going by the defining look that it lends to our images. Nevertheless, an interesting read just to see what's behind that look. As they remind us, it's not the most expensive (or fastest) lens that's the best. You'll recall that we have our own review of the Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH as well.

Adobe Releases ACR 8.3 and LR 5.3

Today Adobe has released the final versions of Camera Raw and DNG Converter 8.3, along with Lightroom 5.3. Different versions for ACR 8.3 are available for Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6 - either from their Website (download links below) or through the Adobe Updater. DNG Converter is available for free for users of older versions of Photoshop. The latest versions brings support for 20 cameras, including the Nikon Df and Nokia Lumia 1020 that weren't in the RC versions. The latest version is the first to offer color profiles for Olympus cameras. Nothing for Leica shooters this time around. Read more below for additional details and download links.

Just Like the Pros - Part Deux

As in our last, sad video of gear destruction - Just Like the Pros - Almost - this one also ends in carnage. Photographer Chase Jarvis has a slight mishap while experimenting with the DJI Phantom drone and Sony RX100II camera in Iceland. Moral of the story? Don't experiment with drones, especially those carrying cameras - near water. Oops. This one was definitely NOT staged.

Camera Magica - Kaufmann and Leica

Over on Manager Magazine Online is an article called "Camera Magica" (in German - see below for English). It starts off by talking about the M Monochrom, how it took one and a half years of development and devouring "tens of millions of Euros" to bring to fruition. Hoping to sell 3,500 units - turns out, it was triple that. It goes on to talk about the near-bankruptcy of Leica Camera AG, the Blackstone investment, the new factory in Portugal as well as the new Leitz Park in Wetzlar (which cost €65M, financed by Kaufmann - Leica is a tenant!). Apparently the dream is to have 300 stores worldwide (with 150 currently). Plus mention of a new series of cameras and Internet services... A lengthy, interesting read. Read more below for translation.
